Cutting Back on Electricity this Autumn (The increased Cost-of-Living)

Cutting Back on Electricity this Autumn (The increased Cost-of-Living)

Despite the cap proposal of £2,500 this October, energy prices have still risen significantly, and with colder months already a harder time of year for most when it comes to the cost of electricity, it may lead many to worry. But no need, Electrical Estimates have gone out to find some tips on how you can save on your electricity bill in the coming winter months.

Turn the Heating Off

This may sound counter intuitive, but why keep the heating on when you’re not using it? Try turning off the heating when you’re not in the house and when you’re asleep, relying more on the hot water bottle at night instead. This could save a lot of money and prevent wasting energy when you don’t need it.

Even better, when you ARE using your heating, why not try turning it down? Studies conducted by Energy Saving Trust show that by turning your thermostat down by just 1 Celsius you can save up to £95 a year.

Switch to LED Lights

As the nights get longer and darker, it’s inevitable that your lights will be on for longer, especially if you work remotely. Of course, this also means a rise in energy costs.

At Electrical Estimates we have already discussed at length the benefit of installing LED lighting in homes and offices. LED lighting technology has developed considerably, and many LED light designs are now available for use at home. Energy efficiency demands will make LED lighting the choice of light for the future.

LEDs are up to 10 times more efficient than conventional or halogen bulbs, and Electrical Estimates is happy for you to get in touch to discuss installation of them to help you save on your electric bill.

Completely isolate electronics

Some electronic devices consume power whilst in standby or low power modes. TVs, gaming consoles etc. Turning those gadgets off rather than leaving them on standby could save the average household up to £30 a year according to the Energy Saving Trust. So, turn off that TV and unplug that phone once it’s at 100%!

Shopping around for suppliers

It doesn’t pay to be loyal when it comes to your utility bill, at least, not always. Ensure you shop around regularly for cheaper utility suppliers to ensure you’re getting the best deal for your electricity consumption. Switching could save you up to £250!

It doesn’t take long out of your day to log onto a price comparison site and check who’s got the best deals going and, should you decide to swap, your energy supply will continue uninterrupted with the only difference being your purse strings and the supplier’s logo on top of your bill every month.
