Ysgol Gyfun Aberaeron Secondary School

Ysgol Gyfun Aberaeron Secondary School

Earlier in the year we contracted by Ceredigion County Council at Ysgol Gyfun Aberaeron Secondary School, to replace all fluorescent lighting within the school for LED equivalents.

This project is a great example of our rapid design, quotation and completion capabilities. All 820 light fittings had to be installed within a very short time frame as the school was closed during the Covid-19 pandemic, whilst not compromising the required health and safety requirements. All the obsolete fittings were recycled responsibly including the some 1600 fluorescent lamps.

One of the main reasons why light emitting diodes (LEDs) are more efficient is because they only emit light in one direction. The LEDs are all arranged along the bottom of the lamp and send light directly downwards. Fluorescent lamps on the other hand, emit light in all directions, including up towards the ceiling where it is not needed – and as such use a lot more energy is consumed.

This project will yield an estimated saving of 17.5 tonnes of CO2 from Ysgol Aberaeron’s lighting carbon footprint, as well as an estimated saving of 30-40% on the energy costs. It was a pleasure to work as the main contractor on this contract.
