Environmental Management System (EMS) and Certification: Actions That we Take.

Environmental Management System (EMS) and Certification: Actions That we Take.

At Electrical Estimates we have an array of documentation and procedures to support the requirements necessary for EMS such as: an environmental policy, objectives, an environmental compliance register, spreadsheets for monitoring utility usage and other documents and procedures.

It’s important to us at Electrical Estimates that we maintain good environmental procedure due to our environmental impacts such as: materials, travel to and from sites, waste, energy, water, and other office consumables – because of our EMS Certification, we can promise that these are all controlled with processes, procedures, checks and training.

Our Impact

Our key areas in terms of environmental impact are travel, energy consumption and waste generation and we endeavour to minimise these where feasible by providing a clear policy to our colleagues and suppliers on waste management.

Each year we re-evaluate the environmental impacts of our business activities, ensuring we are minimising our environmental impact as much as possible. Our main focuses are travel, energy consumption and waste production. We then set ourselves objectives in order to reduce our impact. In 2023 our objectives include:

Reviewing existing waste streams to see if any more can be diverted for re-use before recycling.

Repurposing items from site by donating them to clients for their own projects. For example: crushed aggregates to repair potholes in a private road, bricks from storage heaters reused to build a path and cable reels reused for carpentry projects.

Updating vehicle trackers to better analyse our fuel consumption.

We are currently in the process of calculating our carbon footprint for electric, gas and business mileage. Once calculated we can then consider carbon off-setting further.

Our Environmental Management

We take a range of steps to ensure that we’re minimising our environmental impact as much as possible. Here are just some of the ways we do this:

We produce and manage Site Waste Management Plans when appropriate for all main contracts and CDM duties.

To minimise fuel emissions from our vehicles, we’ve invested in a vehicle tracking system allowing us to use the data to inform our careful route planning arrangements. We also encourage colleagues to vehicle share whenever possible.

We minimise the use of energy through the use of low energy lighting and microwave sensors in our office whilst ensuring our building is as well insulated as possible.

We reduce our stationery consumption by carrying out business with our customers through email, social media, and our website.

Please see our dedicated Environmental Policy for detailed ways in which Electrical Estimates works to reduce our environmental impact every year!
